Education ministry publishes shortlist for Vice-Chancellor appointments (with lists)

Kathmandu, June 5: The government has published the names of eligible candidates selected for the post of vice-chancellor in eight public universities.

A meeting of the Selection and Recommendation Committee formed to recommend candidates for vice-chancellor appointments on Thursday approved and released the shortlist for Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, Purbanchal University, Lumbini Buddhist University, Agriculture and Forestry University, Mid-West University, Far-West University and Rajarshi Janak University.

The appointments are being carried out for the first time through a unified process in accordance with the Integrated Procedure for the Selection and Recommendation of Vice-Chancellors of Various Universities, 2083 BS.

According to the shortlist, 10 candidates each have been selected for Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, Purbanchal University, Rajarshi Janak University, Mid-West University and Agriculture and Forestry University, while seven candidates have been shortlisted for Lumbini Buddhist University.

The committee has invited feedback and suggestions regarding the shortlisted candidates by Nepali month of Jestha 25. The final recommendation process will proceed based on public feedback and further evaluation.

According to the ministry, a total of 218 applications were received for the vice-chancellor positions. The shortlist was prepared on the basis of scores awarded by an expert evaluation panel.

The government had called for applications on Baisakh 24 for vacant vice-chancellor positions in eight universities, including Tribhuvan University. A meeting of the Selection and Recommendation Committee held on Jestha 13 conducted the preliminary review and approved eligible applications.

Prime Minister and Chancellor of the universities Balendra Shah formed the recommendation committee under the chairmanship of Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel. According to the Ministry, the committee formed a separate expert-led subcommittee that evaluated the applications and prepared the shortlist based on merit scores. #nepal
