Westerly system remains active; Temperatures likely to rise across terai

Kathmandu, June 6: A western low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere, coupled with the partial influence of local winds, is currently affecting weather conditions across Nepal, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).

The department has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in parts of Koshi, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, as well as in several hilly and mountainous regions of the country. Some areas of the Terai are also likely to receive rainfall.

Light to moderate rain has already been recorded in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, as well as in a few hilly areas of Sudurpaschim Province.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to rise further across the southern plains. The DHM has warned that some areas of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may experience heatwave conditions over the coming days.

For this afternoon, Koshi Province and the country’s hilly and mountainous regions are expected to remain generally cloudy, while most Terai areas will witness partly cloudy skies.

Tonight

Tonight, cloud cover is likely to persist over Koshi Province and the hilly and mountainous regions. The plains of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are forecast to remain partly cloudy, while most other Terai districts are expected to see mainly fair weather.

The department has advised the public, particularly those living in heatwave-prone areas, to take necessary precautions as temperatures continue to climb across the southern plains. #nepal
