Kathmandu, June 12: Members of the National Assembly (NA) have advised the government that it revised budget for the upcoming fiscal year, 2083-84 BS (2026-27), ensuring that it is people-centric.
Taking part in general discussions on the government’s estimations of revenue and expenditure for the upcoming fiscal year in the Friday’s session of the Upper House, Narayan Datta Mishra advised the government that it amended the budget to address multiple challenges facing the economy.
Jhakku Prasad Subedi demanded that the budget address the needs of marginalised communities.
Samjhana Devkota was of the opinion that the budget seemed to be ambitious one. Mohammed Khalid said the budget is likely to encourage inflation, affecting the people.
Lalit Jung Shah stressed that the budget be centred on ensuring free education and health for citizen below the poverty line, while Suresh Kumar Ale Magar viewed that rigorous efforts are needed to achieve a 7-percent economic growth.
Ram Kumari Jhankri expressed doubts whether the budget could cope with nation’s practical challenges.
Durga Gurung claimed the budget failed to raise hopes for the creation of employment within the country, while Nar Bahadur Bista underlined urgency to address aspiration of Nepali society through the budget.
Somnath Portel demanded the introduction and implementation of programmes aimed at empowering the Dalit community.
Rajendra Laxmi Gaire urged the government to address the suppressed voices of women through revisions to the budget.
Roshani Meche was of the view that aspirations for development were likely to be unmet, as the current expenditure continued to outweigh capital expenditure.
Bishnu Kumari Sapkota, Basudev Ghimire, Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Gita Devkota, Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma, Shree Krishna Prasad Adhikari called for making it people-centric.
