Kathmandu, July 9: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing Nepal’s construction sector as part of broader efforts to improve the investment climate and advance economic reforms through infrastructure development.
During a meeting with officials of the Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shah said the construction sector plays a vital role in driving economic growth, creating employment, and building the country’s physical infrastructure.
He pledged that the government would work to resolve the practical problems affecting infrastructure projects and stressed the importance of collaboration among the government, private sector, and other stakeholders to ensure that development projects are completed on time. He also emphasized the need to make infrastructure development more transparent, accountable, efficient, and results-oriented.
Representatives of the construction sector raised several challenges facing the industry, including delayed government payments, contract time extensions, contract management issues, stringent project deadlines, price adjustment mechanisms, and difficulties related to banking and investment.
They called for stronger coordination and more effective cooperation between the government and the private sector to ensure the sustainability of the construction industry and accelerate infrastructure development.
The meeting was attended by FCAN Senior Vice-President Nikolas Pandey, General Secretary Shivhari Ghimire, Bagmati Province Vice-President Balkrishna Thapa, former FCAN President and Advisor Jayram Lamichhane, and contractor Mukesh Pant.
Also present were Prime Minister Shah’s Chief Advisor Kumar Byanjankar, Information and Communications Technology Advisor Bibek Mishra, and Principal Private Secretary Subas Sharma. #nepal
