Kathmandu, July 28: The government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ethical recruitment, enhancing labour migration governance and protecting the rights of migrant workers.
It was reflected in the fifth thematic discussion of the Nepal Forum on Migration and Development (NFMD) which organized jointly by the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment (MoYLE) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kathmandu on July 24.
The government officials, development partners, private sector representatives, international experts and other stakeholders attended the event in a bid to improve recruitment systems, reduce recruitment costs, protect migrant workers’ rights and strengthen labour migration governance.
Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment, Ramjee Yadav, informed the participants about the government’s ongoing efforts to address high recruitment costs through evidence-based reforms and stronger implementation mechanisms. The government is committed to building a labour migration system that upholds dignity, transparency, and decent work for all, he reiterated.
“Ethical recruitment is key to protecting migrant workers and ensuring migration is safe, dignified, and rights-based,” said IOM Chief of Mission in Nepal, Helene Fors. She observed Nepal has shown strong leadership through its policy reforms and global commitments, and IOM remains committed to supporting the Government in strengthening ethical recruitment and labour migration governance.
The event witnessed regional good practices and explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation with destination countries, promote ethical recruitment and improve employment conditions for Nepali migrant workers. #nepal
