KATHMANDU: Hitendra Dev Shakya has been appointed as the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). A cabinet meeting held on Monday appointed Shakya as the executive director. He was serving as NEA’s acting Executive Director.
The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources had appointed Shakya as the acting executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority on November 6.
The then Energy Minister Barshaman Pun had given the responsibility to Lekhnath Koirala on the basis of seniority.
However, Minister Pun expressed dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister, who disagreed with Kulman Ghising’s reappointment, saying that the senior official of the authority had been removed and the junior Shakya had been given the responsibility.
Shakya was stationed as head of NEA Engineering, a subsidiary of NEA, before coming to NEA.
Shakya is considered to be an expert in transmission lines. Prior to 2073 BS, he was involved in a preparatory project under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
