KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Binay Jung Basnet on charges of character assassination and threatening Sapana Roka Magar, who has been included in the BBC’s list of 100 most influential women in the world.
Police arrested him from New Bus Park at Gongbu, Kathmandu on Tuesday evening. Basnet has been kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Teku. The misunderstanding between Binay and Sapana, who have been cremating the unclaimed corpses for a long time, had increased in the last few months.
Sapana had lodged a complaint with the police a few days ago saying that Binay was threatening her and she was insecure. After Sapana’s complaint, the police took Basnet under control with the permission of the court.
Sapana had drawn the attention of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa along with her family saying that she was insecure due to Binay. Binay had repeatedly threatened Sapana to make public the nude photos and objectionable videos.
