Kathmandu, July 24: The US Embassy in Kathmandu has handed over a refrigerated vaccine transport vehicle and a maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) equipment package worth US$1 million to strengthen Nepal’s healthcare system.
The handover ceremony was held on Friday at the Department of Health Services in Teku, where U.S. Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Scott Urbom joined government officials to formally transfer the equipment.
The assistance includes a refrigerated freezer van capable of transporting vaccines at –20°C, which will support Nepal’s National Immunization Programme by safely delivering vaccines from the Central Vaccine Store to all seven provinces, helping ensure uninterrupted cold-chain distribution across the country.
The package also includes a wide range of maternal, newborn and child health equipment, which will be distributed to provincial, district and tertiary hospitals nationwide. The equipment is expected to strengthen frontline healthcare services by providing health workers with essential tools to improve maternal and newborn care.
Speaking at the event, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Scott Urbom said the support reflects the longstanding partnership between the United States and Nepal and their shared commitment to strengthening Nepal’s healthcare system.
