BIRATNAGAR: A no-confidence motion has been registered against Chief Minister of Province-1 Sherdhan Rai on Sunday.
Lawmaker Indra Bahadur Angbo tabled the no-confidence motion in the provincial assembly meeting on Sunday.
Speaker at the Province Assembly Pradeep Kumar Bhandari had granted permission to Angbo to table the motion in line with Article 188 (44) of the Constitution and Province Assembly Regulations 2074 Rule 129 (1).
According to speaker Bhandari, another meeting of the assembly is scheduled at 1:00 pm on March 4.
Lawmaker Angbo represents Prachanda-Madhav faction of Nepal Communist Party while CM Rai is diehard cadre and leader of PM KP Sharma Oli.
Rai lacks nearly 4-5 seats in the assembly to save his post. In such case, opposition Nepali Congress can play crucial role to form next government. Prachanda-Madhav faction has already requested Nepali Congress to support overthrowing the Chief Minister Rai.
However, Nepali Congress looks undecided on this issue. Nepali Congress may be trying to make broader alliance either with KP Oli led NCP or Prachanda-Madhav faction. In Bagmati Province as well, Congress’s role would be very crucial where no confidence motion against the Chief Minister Dormani Poudel has been already tabled.
