KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central committee member Kalyan Gurung has announced his candidacy for the post of party president in the upcoming 14th national convention of the party.
At a press conference here today, Gurung announce his candidacy and also shared his action-plan if he is elected to the coveted post.
The ruling NC is holding its 14th national convention from November 25 to 29 in Kathmandu. Gurung,a youth leader himself, opined that it’s high time the youths in the party should positively intervene for the party leadership and one candidate should not hold more than one position in the party or should not shoulder any responsibilities for the second term.
He said, “A limited section of people from women, indigenous community, Dalit, Madheshi and backward community and Khas Arya were benefitted from the reservation system.
When does a new leadership get a chance?, he questioned. Gurung, also the past President of Nepal Students Union, said that if he was elected to the party’s leadership, he had envisioned to implement a plan where all the elected candidates should make their property details public.
He pledged to make education and health sector accessible for all if he assumed the post of party leadership.
Stating that candidacy announcement should not be made a bargaining chip, he assured that he will file his candidacy in the post he announced about.
Buoyed by the remarkable participation of the youths in the active membership in the NC, the president hopeful expressed his confidence that the he would win the confidence of the disgruntled cadres in the party who wanted youths to be at the helm of one of the oldest democratic parties in the country.
