No tax increment on sanitary pad, Finance Ministry clarifies



KATHMANDU: The government has clarified that no additional tax has been levied on sanitary pad.

The Ministry of Finance expressed its attention towards the fake reports spread through social media and some mainstream media noting the government has increased custom duty in the import of sanitary pad.

The custom duty of 15 percent that has been levied in the import of sanitary pad since 2069/70 BS has been inserted in the Economic Act 2078 BS as it was and no additional tax has been imposed for the same.

“We urge all stakeholders not to be deceived by the fake information that the incumbent government has increased the tax”, the Finance Ministry sources said.

Also, MoF clarified that the custom duty of 10 percent that was imposed earlier in the import of raw materials used by domestic industry manufact6uring sanitary pad has been reduced to five percent.

“The reduction in the import of raw materials has been made to incentivize the domestic industries and contribute to substitute the import”.
