9 killed, 23 injured as bus falls into Rohini river in Rupandehi



BHAIRAHAWA: Nine people have been killed and 23 others injured when a bus carrying passengers fell into the Rohini River on the Bhairahawa-Parasi road section of Rupandehi district.

Nine of the 32 passengers were killed when the bus fell into the river at around 4.30 am on Sunday. Five died at Bhairahawa-based Medical College and four at Bhim Hospital, according to police.

The bus (Lu 2 Kha 3841) heading towards Bhairahawa from Janakpur broke the railing of Rohini Bridge and fell into the river. The other injured are undergoing treatment at Bhim Hospital and Medical College in Bhairahawa, police said. According to the police, the bus was evacuated and the injured were rushed to the hospital.

Police estimate that the bus may have crashed due to the driver falling asleep in the morning.
