Kathmandu, Jan 26: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun participated in the welcome ceremony organized at the Indian Embassy here on Thursday on the occasion of India’s 74th Republic Day. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda was also present at the ceremony.
Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastav organised the ceremony. House Speaker, Deputy Prime Ministers, Cabinet members, Deputy Speaker, Members of Parliament, former Prime Minister, leaders of various political parties, heads of constitutional bodies, heads and officers of diplomatic missions in Kathmandu, employees of the Government of Nepal, entrepreneurs-businessmen, social workers, artists, media persons and other prominent people of the society were present at the ceremony.
Expressing a brief speech on the occasion, Ambassador Srivastava said that the high-level visits from both countries have added a new dimension to the relationship between India and Nepal. He said that the political leadership of his country is committed to work in close contact with the Prime Minister Dahal-led government to make mutual relations more dynamic.
Artists from India presented a variety of cultural programs at the ceremony.
On the occasion, an address by India’s President Droupadi Murmu to the nation was read out.
In the address, the Indian President talked about India’s encouraging journey towards the economic sector to achieve the Gandhiji’s philosophy of ‘Sarvodaya (profess for all)’ despite worldwide economic limitations. As she described, India getting the charge of G-20 Chair is itself as an opportunity to contribute for a better world and future and promote democracy and pluralism.
On the occasion, the Ambassador honoured families of those Nepali killed while serving in the Indian Army with a cash prize. The Embassy also gifted books worth Rs 1.6 billion to various 23 organisations.
Students from Embassy’s Swami Vivekanand Cultural Centre and Central University, Kathmandu gave their cultural presentations on the occasion.
