Kathmandu, June 13: Handicrafts worth Rs.3 billion have been exported from Nepal to different countries including India, Europe and United States of America.
Uttam Prasad Devkota, Director General of Federation of Handicraft Association Nepal (FHAN), informed that among the handicrafts exported abroad were made of felt. According to him, up to Jestha 15 of the current fiscal year, Nepal has exported handicraft materials made of felt worth Rs.1 Arba 28 crore.
Nepali handicraft industries have been exporting products made up of allo, bamboo, pottery, bone, ceramic, crystal, dhaka cloths, felt, class, incense, leather, metal, textile, paintings, paper and paper products, fiber, silver jewellery, handicraft, woodwork, shared Devkota.
In the current fiscal year, the handicrafts made of metal materials are worth Rs 90 crore, those made of wool are Rs 19 crore, Nepali paper products are Rs 18 crore, and those made of pearls are Rs 16 crore were exported.
Likewise, woodwork woth Rs 8 crore, cotton worth Rs 5 crore, glass handicraft materials worth Rs 4 crore, Nepali incense worth Rs 3 crore have been exported.
Director General Devkota said that products made of Allo (Himalayan nettle), bamboo, pote( glass beads), animal bones and horns, ceramic, Dhaka, metal, garments, papers, silk, silver, wood, woolen, stone, plants, Pashmina, and so on are supplied from Nepal to various countries including India, China, the US, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Britain, Australia and Singapore.
According to the federation, there is a greater demand for new handicraft items abroad than traditional handicrafts. The traditional handicraft items include woodwork, sculpture, metalwork, etc., while the new ones include natural fibers, glass items, bodhichitta garlands, etc. #nepal #handicrafts
