Baitadi, June 18: The Charmanwati Literary Conference and International Poetry Workshop was held in Dilashaini of Baitadi in the Sudurpaschim Province.
The two-day event was attended by literary enthusiasts from Nepal and India, according to Hem Babu Lekhak, the chairman of the host Nationality Conservation Campaign.
The event aims to protect and promote local art, language, and culture including the Charmanwati civilization that was developed along the Chameliya or Charmanwati river which originates from the mount Api in Darchula and merges with the Mahakali River upon reaching Dashrath municipality in Baitadi, it is said.
The gathering shared ideas on keeping the river civilization intact and utilizing it for the benefit of locals, it is said.
Dilashaini rural municipality Chair Santosh Prakash Joshi said that spreading the message about the Charmanwati civilization was one of the objectives of the event.
Indian literary figure Dr Pitambar Awasthi, who participated in the conference, expressed his hope that the event contributed to further strengthening the bilateral ties between Nepal and India, speaking of the need to give it continuity in the days to come.
Chief District Officer of Baitadi, Bhimakant Sharma, said that the Conference brought together literary figures from both countries, contributing to the promotion of literary field.
The event is supported by the Dilashaini rural municipality.
Indian literary figures Dr Pitambar Awasthi, Dr ArunPratap Singh Bhadauria, singer Bhagwati Danupuriya, Kathak dancer Hemant Maharaj, and from Nepal, Ramesh Pant (Mitbandhu), Jagdish Ojha, Ganga Bista, Tirtha Raj Pandey, Krishna Datta Chataut (Kant), Purna Malla and Prajapati Negi were among participated in the Conference.
