Baglung, July 11: A woman died after her house was buried in a landslide occurred in Baglung district last night.
Khil Kumari Sharma, 55, from Titaura of Baglung municipality-7 died in the disaster, according to Meghnath Gaire, Ward Chairman. Sharma had been living alone.
The neighbours informed the people’s representatives and police persons about the disaster this morning. Mid-hill highway obstructed Meanwhile, the incessant rainfall occurred for some days has triggered a landslide, causing obstruction on the Mid-Hill Highway.
The landslide occurred at Bayaldanda of Kathekhola rural municipality in the district obstructed the highway, a national pride project.
The obstruction has disrupted vehicular movement to and from Purba Rukum, Paschim Rukum and Jajarkot districts, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police in district, Bijay Yadav.
Similarly, Baglung bazaar has been waterlogged due to heavy rains occurred since Wednesday evening. The floods emanated from the highway inundated the market places.
Inundation in the marketplace has caused huge loss. As the retention wall of dumping site breached, it has littered the Kaligandaki corridor, spreading horrible stench.
The landfill site is on the bank of Kathekhola stream, which got its wall damaged with floods. Although efforts are made to remove the garbage from roadway, vehicular movement is yet to be normalized.
The retention wall of landfill site was breached due to huge pile of garbage soaked with rains. With this, people have been demanding the management of garbage far from the Baglung bazaar.
A driver Bir Bahadur Pun said it was sickening to travel by the reeking roads and bazaar. He blamed the municipality had played down the health of thousands of passengers and local people.
