Attorney General Badal takes oath of office



Kathmandu, July 18: In the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel, Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly-appointed Attorney General Ramesh Badal at a ceremony organized at the Sheetal Niwas today.

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal were among other dignitaries present on the occasion. The President on Wednesday appointed Badal to the post of Attorney General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Attorney General Badal has said that he will provide justice to the victims within the framework of the Constitution and the law. He said that during his assumption of office today, he will follow the rights provided by the constitution and the law in order to safeguard justice to the victims.

“It is the responsibility of this office to give justice to the victim, we will fulfill our responsibility within the constitutional framework,” Attorney General Badal said, “When prosecuting a case, we only prosecute guilty persons.” He suggested that since the public prosecutor is considered as the first judge, he should study the case well and proceed.

Badal expressed his commitment that he would fulfill his constitutional obligations as the Attorney General’s office is responsible for providing proper legal advice to the prosecution and the government, and defending the cases before the government.

He also expressed his belief that he will get support from everyone in the work of determining the criteria and bringing uniformity in the prosecution.
