Health ministry holds all-side meeting to seek measures in order to prevent infectious disease

Kathmandu, Oct 2: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, held a meeting with state’s three-level government representatives and Ministry of Water Supply and officials concerned with drinking water to identify the measures to prevent infectious diseases that might spread after disaster like landslide, flood and inundation.

During the special meeting held at the Ministry on Wednesday, Minister Paudel urged the bodies concerned to forward preparations from their sides to prevent spread of infectious diseases like, diahorrea, cholera and dengue as sources of water have become polluted due to flood and landslide.

Lauding the contribution of health workers in the hour of disaster, he said contribution of health workers in treatment of patients during the post-disaster is laudable. “So now you need to be involved to save citizens from infectious diseases. We are ready to support if needed.”

The Health Minister expressed commitment that the Water Supply Ministry, province ministry and local government would carry out activities jointly up to local levels to increase purity of drinking water and to prevent spread of any infectious disease.

He mentioned that special teams of health workers would also be deputed in the areas of need.

Similarly, Minister for Water Supply, Pradip Yadav, announced to collaborate with Health Ministry to provide purification materials in order to distribute pure drinking water to citizens and for awareness.

Mayor of Lalitpur metropolis, Chiri Babu Maharjan, shared that they have been distributing drinking water adopting the purification process after purchasing tanker-supplied drinking water as flood has polluted water sources.

Likewise, Health Ministry Secretary Dr Roshan Pokharel said further health equipment would be sent at the places in need by calling a meeting immediately as per the directive of the Health Minister and expressed commitment to carry out further necessary steps to create awareness and to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. #disease #disaster #monsoon
