Families of football players draw Prime Minister’s attention



Kathmandu, Oct 25: Families of the football players from Batsala Devi Secondary School in Sisneari, Indrasarobar Municipality-3, Makawanpur, who died in a landslide, have drawn the attention of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

They have also demanded a high-level investigation into the incident and the punishment of those responsible.

On Ashoj 12, six children from the school hostel, operated by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), died while trying to escape from the landslide.

During a meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar the affected families stated that continuous rainfall had been occurring since the previous day and there was a notification about opening the dam of the Khulekhani Hydropower Plant. They emphasized the negligence in not moving the children to a safe location and requested a fair investigation to hold the responsible person/organization accountable.

The affected families also urged the establishment of a Fund in the names of the deceased children to promote sports.

On behalf of the affected families, Bhakta Bahadur Balamapaki, Kamala Regmi, Tikaram Acharya, Hem Bahadur Yonjhan, Deepa Baniya, and Lalit Bahadur Ghalan jointly submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Oli.

In response, Prime Minister Oli expressed that the incident was very tragic and assured the affected families that he would seek the details of the situation. He clarified that the government would stand by the victims’ families.

The meeting was also attended by former Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Shalikram Jamkattel, provincial assembly member Kumari Moktan, constituent assembly member Subash Thakuri, and Nepali Congress Makawanpur district President Buddha Sharan Lama, among others. #ANFA #children #nepal
