191 people killed in natural disasters in Bagmati within three months



Hetauda, Oct 26: A total of 191 people have died in 10 districts of Bagmati province except the valley during the three months of the current fiscal year 2081/82. These deaths were a result of disasters such as floods, landslides, inundation and fires.

According to the Bagmati Province Police Office in Hetauda, 177 people lost their lives due to floods, landslides and inundation caused by heavy rainfall on September 27 and 28 alone.

The Office’s spokesperson Superintendent of Police Durgaraj Regmi, stated that 157 people died from landslides, 11 were swept away by floods, and nine drowned in the first three months of the current fiscal year 2081/82.

During this period, eight people died from electrocution, four from lightning strikes, and one each from a fire incident and a wild animal attack. Additionally, 173 people were injured, and 11 individuals remain missing since the disaster.

Furthermore, a total of 171 concrete houses, 673 mud houses and 161 sheds were damaged due to the natural disasters during that time. The police have reported that 93 vehicles and 20 industries were also damaged, along with 83 schools and 12 government offices in different districts.

As a result of the disasters, 48 concrete and suspension bridges were destroyed by floods and landslides. Spokesperson Regmi said that many roads connecting the federal capital Kathmandu were blocked deu to the destruction of bridges and roads.
