Kathmandu, Dec 19: Nepal Women U19 started their campaign with a solid performance in the ACC Women’s U19 Asia Cup 2024 at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval.
After winning the toss, Nepal elected to field first and struck early in the very first over. Nepali captain Puja Mahato, opening the bowling for Nepal, delivered a stellar start by dismissing Limansa Thilakaratne for a duck on her very first ball. Her disciplined over ended with figures of 1 wicket for just 1 run, putting the Sri Lankan top order under immediate pressure.
Sanjana Kavindi managed to score 1 run off 2 balls, stabilizing briefly. However, with the score at 1/1 after the first over, Sri Lanka Women U19 are on the back foot and need to recover quickly to post a competitive total.
However, bad weather has played it’s part. According to Asian Cricket Council, both the teams are waiting for the weather improvement and continue the game. Nepal emerged in the semifinal after beating cricket powerhouse Pakistan and match between Nepal and India canceled due to bad weather.
