ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup: Nepal defeated by Australia



Kathmandu, Jan 22: Nepal has conceded a 83-run defeat to Australia in the ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup.

In the final group-stage match held at the YSD-UKM Oval Cricket Ground in Malaysia today, Nepal chased the target of 140 runs set by Australia. Nepal was reduced to 56 runs by losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Nepali team’s captain Pooja Mahato scored highest runs at 18 while other batters struggled to score runs in double digit. Australia’s Juliette Morton, Lily Bassingthwaighte and Hasrat Gill each took two wickets.
Earlier, Australia, winning the toss and opting to bat, had amassed a total of 139 runs after losing six wickets in 20 overs.

This is Nepal’s third consecutive defeat in the tournament. Nepal was earlier knocked out by Bangladesh in the first match by five wickets and by Scotland by one wicket.

With this win, Australia has remained undefeated the group stage matches and has secured a berth for itself in the Super Six stage. Australia had previously defeated Scotland by nine wickets and Bangladesh by two wickets. #nepal #sport #RSS
