Kathmandu, Jan 23: A major art exhibition on feminism by South Asian women artists is set to be organized in the federal capital on coming January 25.
The exhibition titled ‘Feminist Future: Art, Activism and South Asian Womanhood’ will highlight the complex aspects of feminism, art and activism in South Asia.
Ten women artists from South Asia will showcase their creations in the exhibition conceived by Dr Arshia Lokhandwala. Organized by Taragaon Next and in collaboration with Saraf Foundation, the exhibition will be open to the public for three months at the Taragaon Cultural Center in Boudha, Kathmandu.
The exhibition will feature the works of four female artists from India, three from Nepal, and one each from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. According to the organizers, Indian artists Anita Dubey, Mithu Sen, Sheba Chhachchi, and Pushpamala, Nepali artists Ashmina Ranjit, Vidhata KC, and Uma Bista, along with Sri Lankan Anoli Perera, Pakistan’s Naija Khan, and Bangladesh’s Tayba Begum Lipika will be exhibiting their creations in the exhibition.
The exhibition is being organized as an effort to connect Nepal’s women’s rights issues with the struggles of women’s rights in South Asian countries, says Namita Saraf, founding director of Saraf Foundation and Taragaun Next.
There will be a special performance by artist Ashmina Ranjit on the official opening day of the exhibition. In addition, artists are scheduled to share their experiences on the first day of the exhibition.#nepal #exhibition #rss
