Kathmandu, March 10: National Assembly (NA) member Bishnu Kumari Sapkota said the proportional electoral constituencies should be reserved for women to ensure their strong representation in the parliament.
“The electoral system of the country has gone expensive which is a subject to amendment. Nevertheless, the proportional electoral system enshrined in the Constitution should not be removed”, she noted, arguing that the same system has enabled women, Madhesi, dalit and indigenous nationalities to reach to the parliament.
Lawmaker Sapkota shared that she had been frequently raising the voice in favour of women rights in the National Assembly. “Until and unless women are empowered to come to the leadership position violence against women would not be stopped”.
She highlighted the need of careful implementation of the constitutional arrangements to resolve plethora of problems seen in the country. However, there is also the necessity of amending the main law of the land to address the issue of political stability in the country, she argued.
“Women’s rights should in no way be curtailed whiler amending the constitution”, NA member Sapkota asserted.
She asked the government to present toughly for good governance in the country. “The bureaucracy and the political leadership should be honest enough to deliver governance”, she added.
In a bid to strengthen the federal system, the local governments should be strengthened, lawmaker Sapkota, noted, asserting that the existing number of local government should be reduced through merger process.#nepal #political #rss
