
Kathmandu, March 17: Lawmakers have demanded the government to ensure the safety of life and property of Nepalis working abroad and to take diplomatic initiatives to bring back the bodies of those who lost their lives there.
In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), Madhav Sapkota demanded that necessary legal and diplomatic process should be initiated to bring back the body of Sumina Tamang of Bahrabise Municipality-8 of Sindhupalchowk who died in Iraq in course of foreign employment.
Dr Chanda Karki Bhandari said 15 bodies have been recovered in different parts of the country in the last nine days. She claimed that on an average five people are being killed every three days. This, according to her, shows serious weakness in public security.
Deepak Bahadur Singh said the country’s economy was getting weaker due to the migration of youths abroad.
Krishna Kumar Shrestha said the businessmen of Bara were facing unnecessary sufferings from the district administration. He said that he had raised the issue in the parliament several times for the development of Bara district, but it was not heard.
He drew the attention of the government through parliament to provide drinking water to the people of Amlekhgunj.
Lalbir Chaudhary raised the issue of increasing fear of wild animals in Bardiya district as many people have been killed in wild animals’ attacks, mostly tiger and elephants in the district. He also urged for the management of the buffer zone, demanding appropriate compensation to the affected families.
Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh said discrimination against Dalits still persists. He also raised the issue of increasing criminal incidents near the illegal stone and sand quarries in Sarlahi.
Sita Kumari Rana drew the attention of the parliament to the killing of the national animal cow by the locals of Jagannath Rural Municipality-6 in Bajura. She also raised the issue of smuggling out of cattle towards India and Bangladesh, and the need to check it.
Free legal aid sought for victims at Consumer Court
Similarly, speaking in the ‘zero hour’ in the meeting of the House of Representatives today, Prem Suwal demanded that the government provide free legal aid to the victims in the consumer court.
“The Consumer Court has finally been established six years after the enactment of the Consumer Act and the government’s initiative is necessary to make bill mandatory in every sale and purchase of goods and services as it is not possible for the consumer to file a complaint with the Court without a bill,” he said adding that the government should provide free legal aid to consumers.
Durga Rai expressed her dismay on the topic of providing life-long facilities to the ex-VIPs. She also opined that the suggestion of lawmakers to boost tourist influx through sex trade was not appropriate.
Dol Prasad Aryal drew the attention of the government to solve the problem faced by Nepali migrant workers abroad as well as those of the foreign employment aspirants as they are still being cheated.
Tara Lama Tamang stressed the need for adopting concrete policies to control drug abuse and control drug crime, saying a growing number of youths were falling into the trap of drug abuse.
Dilendra Prasad Badu demanded that the reconstruction of the structures damaged by the disasters should be expedited.
Devendra Poudel stressed the need for timely construction of roads damaged due to floods.
Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana urged lawmakers not to make ‘unnecessary comments’ about the monarchy while Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan demanded action against the people involved in killing cow in Bajura.
Lawmaker Nisha Dangi stressed the need for making digital transactions free of cost while Lawmaker Pushpa Bahadur Shah called for reducing the human-wildlife conflict and promptly providing compensation to the victims of wildlife attacks and farmers whose crops are damaged by wild animals.
Prakash Jwala said that the issue of prohibiting people from sitting in the public service commission for more than six times was wrong as not allowing any citizen to participate in the examination was against the spirit of the constitution.
Pratima Gautam stressed the need of bringing a bill for the promotion of technical and vocational education.
Pratiksha Tiwari urged the lawmakers from the pro-monarchy party in the parliament not to spread the illusion that the king can be brought back as there was no provision in the constitution allowing for the restoration of monarchy.
Prabhu Hazra demanded that Parsa be declared as an industrial zone while Basudev Ghimire said that eco-tourism is the basis of prosperity and work should be done for the promotion of eco-tourism in the country.
Bindabasini Kansakar said the water crisis has deepened and quality drinking water could not be obtained. She also called for testing the water quality.
Lawmakers Bimala Subedi, Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar, Prem Bahadur Maharjan, Dr Narayan Khadka, Narayani Sharma and Nirmala Kairala aired their views on various contemporary issues during the Zero Hour.
