Tanahun, June 11: Local farmers are overjoyed after receiving grants from Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality for honey and black gram production. The grants were provided to motivate farmers under the production-based grant program.
According to Santosh KC, head of the agriculture department of the municipality, grants were given at the rate of Rs. 25 per kilogram to encourage farmers to engage in honey and black gram farming.
Farmers from Anbukhaireni -4 and 5 have collectively received a grant totalling Rs. 393,450 for producing honey and black gram in the current fiscal year.
The municipality has also arranged transportation for the produces to the market. KC said, “There is great potential for pulse and honey production in the municipality. A grant policy has been put in place to support farmers in this sector.”
In the current fiscal year, 123 farmers associated with seven farmers’ groups have received grants for the same purpose.
Farmers belonging to the Thamchuli beekeeping farmers’ group in Anbukhaireni-4 received a grant amounting to Rs. 17,700 for producing 450 kilograms of black gram and 258 kilograms of honey.
Similarly, farmers associated with the Khasrang village farmers’ group in Anbukhaireni-4 have produced 258 kilograms of honey.
Farmers affiliated with the Khola village farmers’ group in Anbukhaireni -5 have received a grant of Rs 64,750 for producing 2,590 kilograms of black gram. Likewise, farmers associated with the Indradevi farmers’ group have accessed a grant of Rs 26,250 for producing 1,050 kilograms of black gram.
As informed, farmers from the Bhukundi Kheusing farmer group received a grant of Rs 150,175 for producing 6,007 kilograms of black gram.
Farmers enrolled in the Thanimai farmers’ group of Anbukhaireni municipality-4 received a grant of Rs 43,575 for producing 1,732 kilograms of black gram and 11 kilograms of honey.
The Chairperson of the Khola village farmers’ group, Shukmaya Praja, noted that production-based grants have encouraged farmers to continue farming.
She said that, “After the municipality’s support for black gram and honey, farmers can sustain themselves in this field.” Similarly, the chair of the Bhukundi Kheusing farmers’ group, Bimala Gurung, expressed confidence that the grant policy would attract more farmers to agriculture. #nepal #agriculture #honey
