Five out of 16 Nepali citizens in Iran are in jail: Foreign Minister Rana

Kathmandu, June 23: Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has stated that there are currently 16 Nepali citizens in Iran.

Responding to questions raised by lawmakers during Monday’s session of the House of Representatives on the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, Minister Rana said, “There are 16 Nepali citizens in Iran. Eleven of them are in a place called Masad, while five others, who entered illegally, are in jail.”

She also informed that on Tuesday, 11 Nepali citizens will arrive in India on an Indian flight. Among them, one person lacked travel documents, so the process to issue those documents has begun.

Additionally, efforts are underway to secure the release of the five Nepalis who are currently in jail.

Details of 885 Nepalis wanting to return collected

Likewise, Foreign Minister Dr Rana informed that 885 Nepali citizens have registered their names to return to Nepal from Israel.

Speaking at Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, Minister Rana provided this update. The government had launched an online portal to collect information from Nepalis wishing to return due to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

Minister Rana emphasized that the government is prioritizing the safety of Nepali citizens in the conflict-affected areas and neighboring countries.

Since the start of the war, the government has been issuing advisories urging Nepalis in Israel and Iran to remain cautious and adopt special security measures. Minister Rana also stated that continuous efforts are being made to monitor the security situation through constant communication with Nepali ambassadors in the concerned countries.

Additionally, she mentioned that 57 Nepalis who had been detained in India have been rescued so far. #nepal #iran #israel #war
