Kathmandu, Aug 22: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has inaugurated the office of the Madan Bhandari’s 75th Birth Anniversary Main Management Committee in Kathmandu on Thursday. However, the office will also facilitate her contact point as rival of Chyasal, the main office of CPN UML.
During the inaugural programme, she again vowed to work as a cadre of the CPN UML. She further said, “I have contributed a lot for the upliftment of the party, but Chaysal has tried to ignore my contribution and even not to renew my party membership, which looks ridiculous.” Bhandari asserted that she had worked fairly and in a dignified manner while being the Head of the State.
The Central Committee has already decided not to provide party membership to Mrs Bidya Bhandari saying she has already served as the highest position like President of the country. However, a section near to Mrs Bhandari and anti-KP Oli faction have been trying to drag Mrs. Bhandari to lead the party chairmanship.
Sources say, party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was invited to the opening ceremony as chief guest, but he denied to be present there.
She stated that the country was reeling under import of goods and services, rather exporting. She said that the country has fallen victim of middleman and corrupt practices. “There must be a forum like Madan Bhandari Foundation to discuss these issues arising in the party.”
The office was established as per the decision to make every person aware on values of people’s multiparty democracy (PMPD) forwarded by the late Madan Bhandari.
On the occasion, senior Vice Chairman of the UML, Ishwor Pokharel, said the office was established to spread the thoughts and contribution of iconic leader Madan Bhandari across the country. The PMPD is the guideline to face adversity and challenges, he argued.
Foundation’s Chairperson Usha Kiran Bhandari informed that numerous programmes would be held for 2082 and 2083 BS marking the 75th birth anniversary of Madan Bhandari.
