Kathmandu, Sept 24: Nepal Telecom, a state-owned and largest telecom operator in Nepal, has postponed the price opening process for the billing system procurement contract, in which the Chinese company Huawei Technologies was selected.
The decision to defer the price opening indefinitely came after alleged irregularities and collusion in the contract process. The official reason given for the postponement is the situation created by the ongoing Gen Z Movement. However, the procurement process itself has not been canceled.
On Bhadra 14 (early September), Nepal Telecom had decided that only Huawei was technically qualified among the two companies that submitted bids for the “Supply, Delivery, Installation, and Commissioning of Convergent Real-Time Billing System (CRTB) and Customer Support (CS) System in a Virtualized Platform.” Accordingly, it had planned to open the financial proposal on Bhadra 30 (mid-September).
Back in 2018/2019, during the tenure of Managing Director Dilli Ram Adhikari, preparations had started for the specification of a real-time billing system for Nepal Telecom.
Nepal Telecom remains one of the largest telecom infrastructure buyer from Huawei. #nepal #telecom #huawei
