Kathmandu, Oct 7: Roshani Adhikari Pathak has filed her sole candidacy from Nepal for the position of Regional Councillor for South and East Asia under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated lobbying through Nepali embassies abroad to secure her election.
Representatives from IUCN member states are eligible to vote in the election, which will take place during the World Conservation Congress scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from October 9.
Adhikari has been actively involved in environmental journalism for over two decades. From October 2022, she served a two-year term as the President of the reknowned civil advocacy organization – Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ).
Expressing her commitment, Adhikari stated, “If elected as IUCN Regional Councillor, I will advocate for the conservation of the Himalayan region and the protection of its ecosystems.” She emphasized that she aims to bring global attention to the challenges Nepal faces due to climate change. #iucn #nepal #NEFEJ
