Kathmandu, Oct 14: Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Satish Kumar Singh, has announced his resignation from the rostrum of the Provincial Assembly.
Stating that he was stepping down to “pave the way forward,” Singh declared his resignation during the assembly session itself todya, Tuesday. From the rostrum, he also indirectly leveled several allegations against his own party, Janamat, and its Chairman, Dr. CK Raut.
Chief Minister Singh made the announcement on Tuesday — the final day of the deadline to seek a vote of confidence — choosing to resign instead of facing the floor test.
Following his statement, Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal announced that the vote of confidence would no longer be necessary and suspended the assembly meeting until further notice.
In his written address, Singh not only announced his resignation but also issued warnings and challenges to Dr. Raut and the Janamat Party leadership. He accused the party’s parliamentary leader in the province, Mahesh Yadav, of conspiring with the Nepali Congress from the very day he became Chief Minister. Singh further criticized Dr. Raut for promoting a culture where party workers were made to revere him as a “god,” saying that in democracy, “the people, not the leader, should be the god.”
Singh, who had contested and won from the same constituency as Dr. Raut, hinted that he could emerge as Dr. Raut’s main rival and challenger in the next election.
Meanwhile, in the centre, the Janamat Party has been officially divided and rival group registered the new party in the Election Commission of Nepal. #madhes #nepal
