Kathmandu, Oct 14: Nepali Congress octogenarian President Sher Bahadur Deuba has described the Gen Z led incidents of September 8 and 9 as premeditated and organized.
Addressing the party’s Central Working Committee meeting at the central office in Sanepa on Tuesday, Deuba said that emerging facts and evidence following the incidents have confirmed their planned nature.
He stated that the concerns and demands raised by the Gen-Z group — including calls for good governance, a corruption-free environment, and protection of freedom of expression — are legitimate and must be addressed.
Deuba emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incidents, stressing that the inquiry should be guided by the supreme national interest rather than short-term political gains or losses.
He also expressed concern that the morale of the country’s key institutions has declined, urging all state organs — including the judiciary and security agencies — to work with high morale and integrity.
“The incidents were not spontaneous but premeditated,” Deuba said. “We must conduct a prompt and impartial investigation, keeping the nation’s greater good at the center. The morale of our vital state institutions has fallen — it is our duty to uplift it.”
A Gen Z led mob vandalised Deuba’s Budhanilakantha residence and brutally attacked Mr Deuba and his spouse Dr Arzu Rana Deuba on September 9. Later, Nepal Army rescued him and kepth both of them in a army hospital for treatment.
Mr Deuba and Dr Arzu both attended the today’s Central Working Committee meeting. According to party sources, both of them will be flying to Singapore for further treatment. On his absense, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka will be officiating President of the Nepali Congress.
Meanwhile, a group of leaders have been campaigning to raise issue of Deuba’s step down and pave the way for new leadership. #nepal #deuba
