CIAA files corruption case against six in Bajura Maternity Centre scam

CIAA Head Office

Kathmandu, Nov 20: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against six individuals, including the then officiating chief of the District Health Office in Bajura, Ashok Kumar Singh, at the Special Court.

Others charged in the case include:

  • Sunesh Kumar Chaurasiya, then engineer at the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Bajura
  • Naresh Rawat, Sub-engineer
  • Paras Rokaya, Chairperson of the maternity centre building construction users’ committee
  • Muna Rokaya, Secretary
  • Khadak Aidee, Treasurer

According to CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel, the defendants are accused of causing losses to public property through irregularities in the construction of a maternity centre building at Himali Rural Municipality-6.

The District Health Office had entrusted the users’ committee with the construction project, estimated at Rs 2.615 million. However, CIAA’s investigation concluded that the building was constructed below standard, not in line with the approved estimate, and that fake bills and reports were used to release payments.

CIAA stated that the structure has now become unusable due to subpar construction. The anti-graft body has sought a fine of Rs 1.585 million from each defendant. #nepal #corruption #CIAA
