Eight Indian nationals arrested for alleged involvement in betting



Kathmandu, Nov 23: Nepal Police have arrested eight Indian nationals on charges of engaging in betting during the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket tournament.

According to Kaji Kumar Acharya, Information Officer at the Valley Crime Investigation Office and Superintendent of Police, those arrested are 31-year-old Raja Yadula, 35-year-old Mahesh Babu, 30-year-old Pandit Srinivasulu, 20-year-old Sheikh Soyab, 30-year-old Navin Maddela, 32-year-old Mahamad Rafi Sheikh, 19-year-old Saikumar Tammisetti, and 28-year-old Sheikh Chand Basal.

All are originally from Pamuru village, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, India, and currently residing in Samakhushi, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–26.

They were arrested from Balkhu for allegedly participating in betting through an online platform called Betacular Live, placing wagers on match outcomes during the tournament.

Police recovered 15 mobile phones from them. The devices will undergo technical investigation, and the suspects have been forwarded to the District Police Range for further investigation and action under Sub-section 4 of Section 125 of the Criminal Code, 2017, which prohibits involvement in betting, Information Officer Acharya said. #nepal #NPL #betting
