Kathmandu, Dec 16: Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Bikash Devkota, has said mental health problem is not weakness because it can be treated fully like other physical diseases.
Giving a video message as part of the ‘mental health awareness’ the government launched, Secretary Dr Devkota said mental health is instrumental like physical health in living a healthy life. He urged everyone not to discriminate the people living with mental health issues, but take special care of them.
The Secretary underlined the need for active engagement of all three-tiers of government to make effective this campaign. “I call on all to speak candidly, hear patiently and engage in effectively in this campaign,” he reiterated in the video message.
The Ministry of Health and Population has launched a mental health awareness campaign from December 10 to March 14. The campaign has aimed at promoting mental health service at citizen’s access by integrating it to basic health service.
According to the Ministry, one among 10 Nepalis are living with a kind of mental health problems, while 19 persons in average commit suicide each day.
The Ministry further requested one and all not to hesitate to talk about stress and plight with reliable persons and colleague, and even consult doctors in case of emergency. #nepal #rss
