Kathmandu, Jan 14: The election schedule for a new leadership of the Nepali Congress (NC) has been announced at the party’s special general convention currently underway in the federal capital.
According to the election committee formed under the special general convention, nominations for candidates will be accepted until 9:15 am today. Coordinator of the election committee and senior advocate Sitaram KC said that the remaining election procedures will be implemented immediately thereafter.
As per the party’s prevailing statute, voting will be held for one president, two vice-presidents, two general secretaries, eight joint general secretaries, and 121 central committee members.
The five-member election committee has been constituted under the coordination of senior advocate KC in line with the working procedures endorsed by the special general convention.
A total of 4,635 general convention delegates are eligible to cast their votes in the leadership election.
The special general convention, being held at the joint initiative of General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Biswaprakash Sharma, has been underway since January 11.
Initially scheduled for two days, the convention was extended to allow additional time for negotiations with the party’s establishment faction, which has opposed the convention despite it being convened with the support of more than the required 50 percent of general convention delegates. #congress #Nepal
