Sarlahi, Jan 26: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that he came to Madhes to closely study and understand the region and its people.
Addressing voters of Sarlahi Constituency No. 4 today, President Thapa stated that he arrived with the aim of getting to know Madhes, a place he has long heard about.
The newly elected NC president said he was encouraged by the warm welcome extended by people from Madhes at various locations, including Simara Airport.
Thapa shared that he was informed about the significant contributions and goodwill shown by Madhes towards the Nepali Congress and the country’s democratic movement.
“I will begin studying and learning the language, customs, culture, and civilization of Madhes from now onwards,” he said.
Some colleagues had suggested that he start his speech in the local language, but Thapa remarked, “I have not come here to perform a conjuror’s trick. I will speak in the local language only after learning it properly.”
Noting that he had previously raised several Madhes-related issues in Parliament, Thapa expressed his commitment to further prioritize the concerns of Madhes and the Madhesi people.
He added that he came to Madhes with the realization that one cannot be truly Nepali without dedicating oneself to Madhes. #nepal #gagan
