Winter rainfall recorded in many places, including Kathmandu



Kathmandu, Jan 28: Several parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, witnessed rainfall today.

Kathmandu recorded 2.2 millimeters of rain, while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur each received 4.8 millimeters this afternoon.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Surkhet recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours with 43 millimeters. Sheragaun in Rukum received 38 millimeters, Jajarkot 33 millimeters, Baitadi 35.6 millimeters, Dadeldhura 33.2 millimeters, Bajura 30.2 millimeters, Manang 32.4 millimeters, and Dolpa 31 millimeters.

Heavy snowfall has also occurred in the high-hilly and mountainous regions of western Nepal.

Meteorologist Barun Paudel said the weather system is gradually shifting eastward, though Tarai and Koshi provinces have received comparatively less rainfall. He added that the system will weaken from tonight and skies will gradually clear. However, cold conditions are likely to intensify as cloud cover may persist for a few days.

Tonight, partly cloudy conditions are expected in the hilly and mountainous areas, while the rest of the country will remain mainly clear. Light rain or snowfall is possible at one or two places in the high-hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

On Thursday, mist and fog are likely at many places in the Tarai region. Paudel said partly cloudy conditions will prevail in the high-hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while mainly fair weather is expected elsewhere.

There is a chance of light rain or snowfall at one or two places in the high-hilly and mountainous regions of these provinces. #nepal #weather
