Kathmandu, March 20: The Supreme Court has ordered the submission of the revised decision of the Attorney General in connection with a case involving Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
A division bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel issued the order on Thursday, directing authorities to present the amended decision made by Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral. The hearing on the case had commenced earlier this week.
Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral had decided to approve the revision of charges related to money laundering and organized crime filed against Rabi Lamichhane in various district courts. However, in a case challenging that decision, the Supreme Court has postponed the hearing without issuing any verdict on Thursday, citing the absence of a required file note.
As a result, the hearing has been rescheduled, and the case will now have to be heard from the beginning.
Previously, a division bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Shreekant Paudel had ordered a regular hearing on March 14.
Attorney General Bhandari had decided to withdraw the cases of money laundering and organized crime filed against Lamichhane during the tenure of the previous government, later amending that decision. Attorney General Bhandari maintained that the charges of money laundering and organized crime against Rabi Lamichhane were excessive and politically motivated, having been pursued by officials of the previous government.
Challenging the move, advocates Yubraj Paudel and Avas Regmi, along with senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, filed separate writ petitions at the Supreme Court.
The court has now sought clarification by demanding the original copy of the revised decision, and further proceedings in the case are expected to continue. #nepal #court #rabi
