Achham once again reports Chhaupadi death

Achham : A woman died in course of observing the Chhaupadi (a cultural practice which banishes menstruating and new mothers from home) in Achham, the district in Far West State last night.

The deceased has been identified as Parbati Rawat, 21, of Siddheshwori 21, Sanfebagar municipality-3, police said.

Under this practice menstruating women are sent to live in isolation in a makeshift hut or a cowshed, locally known as Chhaugoth.

The period of Chhaupadi for women in a monthly cycle is at least first four or five days.

The Area Police Office, Sanfebagar has already left for the incident site for investigation. Further details are awaited, the Achham Police said.

Chhaupadi deaths are not new in Achham.
