Agreement reached to collect garbage in Kathmandu valley from Tuesday

KATHMANDU: Garbage collection in Kathmandu will start from Tuesday after an agreement is reached between the government, the metropolis and the local body representatives in the area.

A written agreement was signed between the Ministry of Urban Development, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and local representatives on Monday. The meeting held on the initiative of the Ministry of Urban Development has agreed to pick up garbage.

Garbage of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City and other municipalities have not been picked up since one week. In the meeting held on Monday, Kakani village municipality of Nuwakot and Dhunibesi municipality of Dhading have agreed to dispose garbage in the landfill site of Bancharedanda with appropriate method.

In the meeting, the Ministry of Urban Development has expressed commitment to start the land acquisition process by evaluating the land on the basis of the environmental impact assessment report. It was also agreed to request the Ministry of Health to operate a 10-bed hospital in the affected area.

The metropolis has also committed to make arrangements for classification of waste sources.
