Attorney Office instructs to investigate 13 more individuals

Kathmandu, Jan 6: The Kathmandu District Attorney’s Office has directed the Nepal Police to further investigate 13 individuals implicated in the embezzlement case of Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative’s savings.

The Attorney’s Office issued the directive after some suspects, including Nepali Congress MP Maya Rai, were not initially named as defendants. Rai, who served as the cooperative’s joint secretary, is among those under further scrutiny.

The Kathmandu District Police had recommended legal action against 44 individuals. However, the government attorney’s office proceeded with charges against only 39 of them. Additional investigation has now been directed for individuals like Rai, Yam Kumar Naalbo, Suraj Shrestha, Punam Kumari Chalise, Mira Bamjan, and Sanjiv Giri, as their detailed three-generation verification records were unclear in the preliminary report.

Similarly, further investigation has been ordered for Shambhu Guragain, Om Prakash Gurung, Laxmi Prasad Paudel, Umesh Gurung, Dipesh Kumar Pun, Bhim Bahadur Tamang, and Pushpa Rai, who are accused of taking large loans without repayment.

The Attorney’s Office has already filed case against Rabi Lamichhane and others over the embezzlement of cooperative’s fund. Lamichhane is now in Kaski Police custody. #rabi #attorney #cooperative
