Bagmati Chief Minister Indra Baniya wins vote of confidence

Hetauda, Aug 12: Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Indra Bahadur Baniya, has secured a vote of confidence. The proposal for the vote of confidence presented by CM Baniya was passed by a majority during today’s session of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly.

Out of the 110 total members of the assembly, 92 were present at the meeting. Among them, 63 voted in favor, 22 voted against, and seven members remained neutral, according to Speaker Bhuwan Pathak.

The proposal was passed in accordance with Article 168(4) of the Constitution of Nepal and Rule 143(1) of the Provincial Assembly Regulations, 2074.

Indra Bahadur Baniya, the provincial president of the Nepali Congress, was appointed Chief Minister on 20th of Shrawan with the support of 64 provincial assembly members from the Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal (UML). He sought the vote of confidence a week after his appointment.

Nepali Congress earlier removed Bahadur Singh Lama from the post of Chief Minister, and chose Baniya.
