Banke police intensify crackdown on illegal soil excavation

Nepalgunj, June 27: Police in Banke have intensified surveillance and enforcement efforts against the illegal excavation and transportation of soil following reports of widespread unauthorised extraction across several local bodies in recent months.

According to the District Police Office, Banke, information received over the past few months indicated that illegal soil excavation and transportation had been taking place at various locations throughout the district. In response, police launched a stricter monitoring and enforcement campaign.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Angur GC, Chief of the District Police Office, said that vehicles involved in illegal excavation and transportation have been seized and fined almost daily as part of the operation. He added that police have also received reports of the illegal extraction and transportation of stones and aggregates in several areas and have intensified efforts to curb such activities. Daily operations to identify and seize vehicles engaged in unlawful excavation are continuing.

Most recently, acting on a tip-off regarding illegal soil excavation and transportation in Kalikapur, Janaki Rural Municipality–3, police seized three vehicles involved in the operation. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pratit Singh Rathore, Information Officer at the District Police Office, a police team from the Khajura Area Police Office impounded two tipper trucks and one excavator (JCB) used for the illegal activity.

In a separate operation, police confiscated two excavators and six tipper trucks involved in illegal soil excavation and transportation in Manikapur (Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City–20), Pipiri (Kohalpur Municipality–8), and Titihiriya (Baijanath Rural Municipality–8).

Police also seized two tractors allegedly used for illegal soil excavation in Maitahawa (Kohalpur Municipality–3) and Mankhola (Baijanath Rural Municipality–2).

All confiscated vehicles have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action.

The District Police Office, Banke, stated that monitoring and enforcement operations against illegal excavation and transportation will continue in order to protect natural resources, prevent environmental degradation, and ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations. #nepal
