Bill on loan shark tabled in National Assembly meeting

Kathmandu, July 27: The government has tabled a ‘Bill to amend some Nepal Acts related to the Civil Code, 2080’ in today’s session of the National Assembly related to loan shark.

The bill that was passed by the House of Representatives on Ashad 31, 2080 BS was tabled in the meeting of the National Assembly held on Thursday.

Secretary of the National Assembly Surendra Pandey tabled the bill. Earlier, National Assembly had sent the Bill to House of Representatives.

National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has adjourned the meeting for half an hour. The National Assembly is preparing to pass this bill today. After being passed by the assembly, this bill will come into effect as a law after authenticated by the President.

Meanwhile, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dhanraj Gurung has requested all the House member to stand up for the victims of loan shark. “The whole country stands in support of the victims. Both the National Assembly and the House of Representatives will stand on the side of the victims. We must stand together for the end of the remnants of feudalism.”

He further said, “In fact, this bill aims to bring the perpetrators of unfair transactions under the legal framework.”

He was addressing the National Assembly session today.

Victims of the loan shark have been protesting to make the culprits in a legal net. The government, with broad consensus, have prepared a legal framework to punish such culprits.
