Border closure on eve of Dashain affects travelers

Baitadi, Oct 5 :  The closure of Nepal-India border in Baitadi in view of the election in the neighbouring Pithoragarh district on the eve of Dashain  has caused troubles for Nepalis.

The decision to seal off the border for the security reason has caused problems for those Nepali   returning their homes for the Dashain. It has hampered trans-border business activities as well, complained Devdutta Bhatta of Dashrathchand municipality-1.

Baitadi’s Chief District Officer Anand Poudel said the border was sealed off for the district Panchayat and gram (village) Panchayat elections in Pithoragarh. Indian devotees on the way to various religious shrines in Baitadi have also been affected by the border closure.

CDO Poudel said the election has been scheduled for today and border will be opened only after 5:15 pm tomorrow. However, it could be opened for emergency purpose through a mutual coordination, he said.
