Border transit points with India to be closed for 48 hours



Darchula, Oct 15 : The border transit points with India are to be closed for 48 hours in view of the Gram Panchayat (village level local bodies) elections taking place in India.

All the transit points on the border with Pithoragadh district of India will be sealed, Chief District Officer of Darchula, Shankar Bahadur Bishta, said. The Gram Panchayat elections are taking place on October 16.

The bridges over the Mahakali river connecting the transit points would be closed from 5 pm today till 5 pm on Wednesday.

Election is taking place for Gram Panchayat members, the Kshetra Panchayat (Area Panchayat) member and District Panchayat member under the Dharchula Development Region of India.

The Indian District Administration had sent a letter to the Darchula District Administration Office of Nepal informing about the closure of all the border transit points with Darchula citing security sensitivities during the election.

The suspension bridge linking the district headquarters and the Tigram Bridge would be closed.

The Jhulaghat transit point in Baitadi district and Lali, Jauljibi abd Dattu transit points in Darchula district were closed for 48 hours on October 5 before this due to the Gram Panchayat election in India.
