Buddha Air Accident: 7 passengers, including co-pilot, sustain minor injuries



Bhadrapur, Jan 3: Seven passengers, including one member of the flight crew, sustained minor injuries in a Buddha Air aircraft accident that occurred at Bhadrapur Airport at around 9:10 pm on Friday night.

According to preliminary information provided by Superintendent of Police Rajan Limbu of the Jhapa District Police Office, the Buddha Air ATR-72 aircraft (Call Sign 901), which had departed from Kathmandu for Bhadrapur, overran the runway by approximately 300 meters to the eastern side while landing. The aircraft subsequently became stuck in grassy shrubs and soil.

There were 51 passengers, four flight crew members, and one aircraft engineer on board at the time of the incident. Among them, the injured include co-pilot Sushant Shrestha, 24, of Lalitpur-4, along with six passengers.

The injured passengers have been identified as Sabin Jogi, 40, of Bhadrapur-10; Presika Adhikari, 20, of Birtamod-7; Sumitra Jogi, 42, of Birtamod-1; Kamal Prasad Katuwal, 28, of Damak-1; Muna Ghatani, 40, of Kathmandu-16; and Priya Ghatani, 16, also of Kathmandu-16, according to police sources.

All injured individuals were immediately rescued by Nepal Police teams and ground staff and transported to Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital in Bhadrapur for treatment. Co-pilot Shrestha, who sustained injuries to his head and face, is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The remaining six injured passengers received primary medical care and have since been discharged, Superintendent Limbu confirmed.

The aircraft had taken off from Kathmandu at 8:23 pm and met with the accident while landing at Bhadrapur Airport at 9:10 pm. The Nepal Police and Armed Police Force team safely evacuated all passengers from the aircraft and ensured prompt medical assistance for the injured. #buddhaAir #nepal #plane #flight
