Tanahun, Feb 23: Byas Municipality has generated Rs 1.45 million from the sale of recycled waste products during the first seven months of the current fiscal year.
From mid-July 2025 to mid-February 2026, the municipality earned the income by selling garbage and glass items, according to Chief Administrative Officer Sukadev Lamsal.
Facing challenges in waste management, the municipality collects biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste separately from households. “Collecting all waste together causes problems, so biodegradable waste is collected in one vehicle and non-biodegradable in another,” Lamsal explained.
Mayor Baikuntha Neupane said the municipality has been segregating waste from the outset, further separating items like glass, plastic, and paper within non-biodegradable waste and compressing them using machines.
The municipality has also educated families, local wards, and schools on proper waste segregation methods. Non-biodegradable waste collected from municipal offices is also being sold, contributing to the municipality’s internal resources. #nepal #waste rss
