Cabinet decides to request President to validate the Citizenship Bill

Cabinet meeting at Singh Durbar.

Kathmandu, May 26: The government has decided to request the President for verification of the Citizenship Bill.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Singh Darbar on Friday evening decided unanimously to request President again to authenticate the controversial Citizenship Bill.

Earlier, the then President Bidya Devi Bhandari didn’t authenticate the bill citing grave concern, and wrote the parliament to reconsider the provisions attached to the Bill.

According to the constitution, the President must authenticate any bill if approved by the parliament twice. However, President Bhandari didn’t approve the Bill.

However, newly elected President Ram Chandra Paudel has intensified the discussion and legal issues attached with it. The Bill is still in President’s Office.
